The purpose of the Basking Shark Distinctive Specialty is to introduce divers and snorkellers to the worlds largest sharks and familiarise them with the proper techniques for observing Basking Sharks whilst diving/snorkelling with minimual impact on the shark's habitat and behaviour.
The goals of the Basking Shark Distintive Specialty are:
1. To introduce the diver to the Basking Shark, it's biology, behaviour and distribution.
2. To provide and overview of the law, research and worldwide conservation status of the Basking Shark.
3, To emphasise the importance of Basking Shark monitoring activities and give you a chance to participate through Photo-id projects.
4. To enable the diver/snorkeller to plan, organise and execute a dive with Basking Sharks in a safe and passive manner.
Bruce and Mann Scuba Divers are currently working closely with the Manx Basking Shark Watch project and the Isle of Man DAFF in order to ensure that the course has a positive effect on the conservation of the Basking Shark and minimising the risk of disturbing the shark. |
